Management or the art of de-motivation?

In my career as a manager in the NHS there were expressions that made me angry and frustrated. Here's a few that spring to mind – I would love to hear your examples of expressions that have the same effect on you.

‘That’s just the way it is’

‘But we’ve tried that before and it didn’t work’

‘Sorry I will have to ask my boss’

‘I agree in principle’

‘Sorry but that is the procedure’

‘That idea is just too wacky’

‘Why are you not wearing a tie today?’

‘We mustn’t put ourselves in a position where we might be criticised’

‘Laughing does not present a professional image’

‘You are making this too simple’

I look forward to hearing your gems!

Hi Trevor

How about "Why? Because I say so, that's why?"
