Each year in my working life for the last 36 years as Christmas approaches the pace of work generally slows down as everyone looks to do just enough to keep the ship afloat. Generally speaking this is not the time to start new projects and I have lost count of the times I have said over the years ‘we will sort that out in the New Year.’
I suspect most people are the same.
The run up to Christmas 2006 has been very busy for me and for the next day or so it will remain hectic. I am looking forward then to some relaxing time for a week or so.
I always think about staff in the National Health Service and the other essential services who have to work over the holiday period as normal.
My ‘Blogging’ over the next week or so will probably not be as frequent as normal and so I take this opportunity to wish all those who read Simplicity Blog a happy holiday time from both Annie and me.

Beautiful picture, Trevor. The health service that I work for had the decency to close our administrative services building at 10:00 AM, Denver time today, due to blizzard conditions in eastern Colorado at the present. According to our local paper --
A major winter storm is trudging through the state, burying parts of southwestern Colorado and making a white Christmas a likelihood for the Denver area.
The storm could produce 10 to 20 inches of snow from the Front Range across the Plains, along with gusty winds.
Thank you Rosa and Dick.
It is truly wonderful for people like me - of a certain age - that I can enjoy such great communication thanks to modern technology. It is still something of a novelty to me that I can 'talk' with folks as far apart as you two.
The outstanding feature of all this is that there are lots of really nice people around the world - you are both examples of that.
Annie and I have had a memorable 2006 getting married and moving house. We believe 2007 will be equally wonderful – ‘glass half full’ people tend to think that way.
Both Annie and I send love and best wishes to you and yours.
Hi Trevor
Thanks for keeping this blog going and for taking the time to answer all the comments. Like you I am still getting used to the wonders of global communication. Although we have not met I have appreciated your insights, kindness and moral support, especially recently during a period of heavy 'catastrophising'at the end of '06. I am determined to be a more 'half-full person' in '07!
Hope you and Annie have a fantastic first married Christmas together-you deserve it.
All the Best
Hi tomjam - wonderful that you support Simplicity Blog. I value that. Life is all about supporting each other - your support to my Blog is as important as anything you may glean from it.
Seeing the glass as half full is not always easy because life has a habit of kicking us where it hurts but I am sure you have the focus and determination to overcome challenges. Remember as George Giarchi says ‘this too will pass.’
Dear Trevor,
My best to you and yours as the new year approaches. I always like the year end as it gives me time to pause and reflect on the year that has passed and what I want to accomplish in the future.
We celebrate our holidays differently than most people, because as the years have passed we're on the road to a simpler life. Hence very little shopping (we take a mid-winter vacation instead), lots of cooking and some celebrating.
Our holiday dinner was last night. We made sure to invite those without family or family nearby. They say loneliness is the ultimate poverty-we try to relieve some of that for people.
My husband works most holidays in our local hospital. In his way he tries to provide comfort to those who are ill, as well as the staff. You're right, those who labor when most of us are comfortable in our homes deserve our thanks!
Cheers,
Marilyn
Thanks Marilyn and best wishes to you and your family.
Sounds like you have got your priorities just about worked out.
We will be having a traditional English Christmas and trying hard to relax as much as we can.
Very very nice picture !
Would love to see it in My Photocommunity
