"The Last Resort" - Best Eagles track ever!

Prompted by my Blogging friend Mark JF - a regular commenter here on Simplicity blog - and a regular co-commenter on Tom Peters Blog I want to share the best Eagles track of all time - in the opinion of both Mark and me.

This is Don Henley's brilliant solo "The Last Resort" - 7 minutes of magic to all Eagles fans.

It has been described as Henley's virtuoso performance. "Henley at his irreverent best" as Glen Frey said.

The emotion shown on this video from the great man is almost tangible. He is a well known environmental campaigner and the lyrics are a plea for us all to stop ruining our natural resources of our planet - the land and trees.

The last line is powerful:

"To call some place paradise ... kiss it goodbye"

If no one else enjoys it I know Mark will!

Have a great weekend

"Down in the crowded bars,
out for a good time,
Can't wait to tell you all,
what it's like up there
And they called it paradise
I don't know why
Somebody laid the mountains low
while the town got high"

Fantastic lines!!! Ahem, Eagle's best. Well, you could say so. Still, I reckon "Hotel California" will be mentioned in a totally different league.

Having said that, I love this song as well. The higher notes are sung very beautifully!!!

Thanks for this post!!! I needed a break from listening to some heavy stuff.

Hi Brosreview - the lyrics are terrific on this track.

Hotel California will always be regarded as the Eagles classic. I suspect you are right that HC will be seen as a lasting tribute to the band.

I just love Henley's voice on Last Resort and also his passion for a cause.

There are quite a few songs from the new album ‘Long Road Out of Eden’ that will become Eagles classics. I will post one or two in the next few weeks.

Thanks for stopping by at Simplicity again - appreciated :-)

Oh yea, I purchased the dual-CD pack of this album. A come back after 32 years (innit?) - worthwhile!!! They haven't lost any of that energy and they still manage to ooze out those creative juices.

Some of fav. songs in the latest release - How Long, What do I do with my heart, Waiting in the weeds, and No more cloudy days. I hope I did not miss anything. And, then there is simply exquisite instrumental track - I dreamed there was no war; I simply love this track.

Yea, will look forward to your posts. Please visit my spot sometime. Cheers!!!
