Thanks JK – leadership is one of my favourite topics too - I love the subject and my MA Management (Healthcare) research in the mid 1990's was on leadership. I can send you a copy of my dissertation if you like reading on leadership - it is 20,000 words but happy to send it to you - just let me know. I studied leadership from the perspective of family doctors here in the UK. I interviewed 5 doctors in-depth and another 20 or so not so fully. My dissertation is called Leadership in Practice - let me know.

Trevor,

I left a comment on the Training Zone site commenting on your excellent article. Additional training and experience alone does not a leader make. They have other characteristics and attributes that enable them to enable others to achieve great things...amybe personally, maybe professionally. I'm not sure if you are born with it, but it is something that you learn and apply. I do know however, we need more folks who have "it"...

Thanks for your continued support Dave - I always listen to your experience and knowledge of leadership. Like you I struggle to identify the 'it' in some leaders - but I know it when I see it!
