Training Zone welcomes simplicity

I’m delighted to say I’ve been asked to write a regular monthly column for TrainingZone.co.uk - the UK's most popular site for corporate training professionals with an online network of over 40,000 active members. My first article appears today and you can read the article by clicking here

Nicely done Trevor! I love the practical examples of how to simplify and promise to try one next week. As an aside around "years of experience" I was told early in my career that it is important to distinguish between an employee with 15 years experience and one with one year experience repeated 14 times. I hypothesize that those employees that spend more time trying to contribute in simple ways rather than appear significant are more likely to accumulate 15 years of experience over time. Very glad to see your growing success, you have a special message for us all. Best.

Thanks David – your kind words are appreciated.

I always try to include some practical simplicity tips because it is very easy for anyone to be critical about something but not offer any suggestions to improve things.

Having said that, to simplify must be the easiest thing any manager worth his/her weight can do very easily. We do not have to use complicated jargon – we just don’t!!

I love that – thank you for another gem!

I really like the point that David makes in his comment. Some people can have 15 years experience while others 1 year repeated 14 times. That is a powerful statement and one that resonates with my my situation at the current time. I also like how you talk about the best way to gain power is to give it away. Maybe one way to give it away is to help those with 1 year of experience and repeating it over and over again a hand in moving towards gaining more than the one year. Very cool how that all came together. Kep on rattling the cage mi amigo.
