Running for Carers

Annie and I are now committed to running the 26 miles (and a bit) London Marathon in April 2009 and our training regime has started in earnest.

We are aiming to raise £3000 for Carers UK – a campaigning organisation for unpaid family carers who look after people with an illness or disability.

A SECURE website has now been set up where anyone can sponsor us.

If you feel able to help us you will be helping more than 6 million carers in the UK.

Click here to sponsor our marathon run and please do leave us an encouraging message – we need it!

Can I also ask if you will pass on this to anyone you think maybe interested?

Thank you.

Trevor

While it may be difficult to contribute from the US we wish you the best. Friends of ours regularly run marathons and half-marathons and I have been awed by their stamina and perseverance. One of them is 65 and has run the Chicago marathon the past three years! BTW--election day here and the early returns are promising for Senator McCain. It probably won't last, but it is a promising start.

Thanks for your best wishes Mike - it encourages us. Great to hear of your friends efforts - makes me feel young!

I'm currently planning on staying awake to watch the UK TV coverage and the word over here Mike is that Mr Obama is going to win comfortably.

It’s now 1 am Wednesday and I plan to stay up for at least another hour or two by which time I hope there will be at least an indication of who will win ...... the plot thickens ... this is so exciting

The results are in and many people the world over are very happy. I'm not one of them.

Hi Mike

A landslide victory means that your fellow Americans have made a very powerful statement it seems.

I wish Mr Obama well - he offers the world hope from where I sit and we need hope more than ever.

Mike,

I was waiting for Trevor to put up a specific post-election item but looks like he’s too busy training for his marathon – either that or he is too stunned after Manchester United only just managing a last minute draw against a lowly Scottish team last night!

I am another of the many people the world over who are very happy with Barack Obama’s victory. I think that it is a stunning result. The image of America and the American people has been badly tarnished by the last eight years. And from the brief glimpses that we get from Europe, much within the US appears to be broken.

Of course, it is too much to expect that one man can change everything for the better, but perhaps it is worth recalling the words of Franklin Roosevelt:

“The only limit to our realisation of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.”

Thanks David – I will put up a posting in the next 24 hours celebrating the victory of Mr Obama. Life is busy right now which is good news. One person will never really change the world – I prefer to think of leadership as inspiring and motivating others to achieve. I love this famous quote of Margaret Mead the Australian anthropologist:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”

Dear Trevor,
Good morning.

'am back to Chennai after a week long biz trip. I tried to send my message to be displayed on the blog "London Marathon 2009" but failed. You may please assist me on this and the mesage is as follows:-

"A tiny assistance from me towards a mighty and noble cause.I am still to do little more as time is yet left, I shall do it and keep you informed. All the best you & Annie on your great endeavour. May Jesus bless you and your family at all times. Best Regards to you both."

I have passed on the link to all my contacts/friends and I hope many will go through it and respond.

Best Regards.

Trevor,
I agree with you cent % that one person can never change the world, why world- even USA and Obama is not an exception to this fact(wait patiently and see). The quote of the Margaret Mead is most apt to bring out change in the world. But will it happen ? If its going to happen when? A question none can answer-That's the global political scenario today.

Thanks JK - it is always the people who make change happen - it is a great leader who provide us with the freedom to make the changes. I am very optimistic about Mr Obama who seems an inspiring leader.

Trevor,
I am indeed very happy of your being optimistic-well and why not let people of American enjoy and have good time ahead- There is a very good old saying "The new Maid,in the begining will even sweep the roof of the house, later as she used to get accustomed to tbe house hold, will not even sweep the floor of the house", leaving it dirty-I hope you understand what I mean and 'am not pessimistic at all by writing this comment.

Hi JK - yes I understand what you are saying and your quote reminds me of the person who became a Christian and when asked what was different about her life she replied – 'I now sweep UNDER the mats on the floor as well.'
