That is all due to technology and it feels great. I believe the web and e-mail are wonderful advancements as long as they are used wisely and do not take over our lives completely. I am excited about the future possibilities too. I often muse about what the world will look like for my grandchild Sebastian who is 18 months old when he is 54 like his Grandad!

Best wishes to you and all my American friends for your thanksgiving and thanks again for your continued support to my Simplicity Blog.Trevor Gayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01148705981847576706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9533912.post-1163852537904162622006-11-18T12:22:00.000+00:002006-11-18T12:22:00.000+00:00Congratulations, Trevor. As we prepare for our Thanksgiving celebrations here in the USA I want to say how grateful I am for having technology like this to connect to other people. Just a few short years ago someone(s) dreamed of this and now we connect, instantly, across the globe. Fantastic, really. The same goes for your fellow bloggers on the site--Happy Thanksgiving to all!Marilyn Jesshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04043225892512813654noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9533912.post-1163776329201493612006-11-17T15:12:00.000+00:002006-11-17T15:12:00.000+00:00Thanks for that DanAfter David's comments and now ...Thanks for that Dan

After David's comments and now yours it seem like I have one Christmas present request lined up :-)Trevor Gayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01148705981847576706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9533912.post-1163775532861272302006-11-17T14:58:00.000+00:002006-11-17T14:58:00.000+00:00Bravo on your latest milestone! I'm in the middle of the Seven Day Weekend myself, and can't put it down. He's remarkable, both as a CEO and a writer.Danhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10672193314217176187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9533912.post-1163715881408705622006-11-16T22:24:00.000+00:002006-11-16T22:24:00.000+00:00Hi David – hope you are wellThanks once more for y...Hi David – hope you are well

Thanks once more for your comments – always appreciated

I don’t feel ‘500’ even though some may say I look it :-)

I first came across Ricardo Semler with his book Maverick in the late 1990’s which was recommended to me by a previous boss of mine. That ex-boss was partly maverick but also managed to be corporate man as well – a tricky balance.

Semler is reckoned to be just about the most radical Chief Exec in the world but his ideas are - by his own admission - based on common sense and simplicity, and trust and faith in front line staff. Needless to say I agree with him and have advocated the same for the last 30 years.

I will look up the programme and thanks for the tip off about the book.Trevor Gayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01148705981847576706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9533912.post-1163710368730505142006-11-16T20:52:00.000+00:002006-11-16T20:52:00.000+00:00Congratulations on your 500th birthday Trevor! Gla...Congratulations on your 500th birthday Trevor! Glad you survived the Celtic fringes. I was watching the BBC’s Working Lunch programme yesterday (Wednesday). There was an interview with Ricardo Semler, a Brazilian guy who runs a large company where they have certainly changed the way things are done.

They seem to have thrown out most conventional business ‘rules’. The philosophy is very much let the front line run the business as they want, after all, as we both know, the front line knows best. Staff can pretty much choose how they work. If they want to work from the beach, that’s fine. They even decide their own salaries and bonuses using a process of peer group review.

There is a video clip of the interview on the BBC website – it starts approximately a third of the way through the programme. Failing that, put his book ‘The Seven-day Weekend: A Better Way to Work in the 21st Century’ on your Christmas list – I have!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9533912.post-1163671132594573482006-11-16T09:58:00.000+00:002006-11-16T09:58:00.000+00:00Thanks all of you for your kind words - great that...Thanks all of you for your kind words - great that you visit Simplicity Blog - I appreciate that :-)Trevor Gayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01148705981847576706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9533912.post-1163634056880797552006-11-15T23:40:00.000+00:002006-11-15T23:40:00.000+00:00Congratulations!!
